Dublin Riots - many using irishblogs.ie to track topical events
We were coming up no. 1 on Google.ie and no. 4 on Google.com for the search term “dublin riots” yesterday. Interestingly enough we’re now down to no 10 on Google.ie. I’ve never seen such fast changes on Google. It’s possibly because our home page changes so much, so quickly. Google accounts for about 25% of our traffic. I’ll have to investigate the Google site map widget and see if we can throttle them somehow in a sensible way.
In any case many were using irishblogs.ie to chronicle bloggers reactions and thanks to those such as Donncha who gave us a hat-tip in their post.
We’ve made changes to the search results option. I was tracking a topic over at a pet project of mine called Development Blogs. The topic was “microfinance” and I found it a bit annoying that the results were sorted in relevance order rather than date order. It’s difficult to see the latest news on a particular topic. So we’ve now given the option to sort by date so this query will give the latest posts on microfinance.
So you can track new posts on the Dublin riots , sorted by date.
You can toggle between the sort orders by clicking on “Order by Date” or “Order by Relevance” at the top of the page.
Despite being only a couple of days old the search term “dublin riots” is now in no. 2 spot on our Search Query Report from our stats page and I expect it to knock the breakfast roll song off the no. 1 spot by tomorrow.
We’re working on ways to group posts relating to topical events, a type of “news in the blogs” section. More on this by the end of the week…..
